VoteWatching is a small civic data project focused on making city council voting records more accessible. We are not a large corporation, and we have no interest in harvesting or monetizing your personal information. This policy explains, in plain language, what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

We do not use cookies, analytics services, tracking pixels, or any third-party scripts that monitor your behavior on this site.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information you submit through the contact form solely to respond to your inquiry, understand which cities people are interested in, and communicate project updates if you have requested them. We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with marketers or data brokers.

Data Storage

Contact form submissions are stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase, which provides encryption at rest and in transit. Our website is hosted on Vercel. Both services maintain their own privacy and security practices. We encourage you to review their policies if you are interested.

Third-Party Services

Beyond Supabase (database) and Vercel (hosting), we do not share your data with any third parties. We do not run advertising, and we do not integrate with social media tracking or analytics platforms.

Public Voting Data

The city council voting records displayed on VoteWatching are sourced from publicly available government records. This data is already part of the public record and does not constitute private or personal information. We present it in a more accessible format but do not alter its substance.

Data Retention

We retain contact form submissions for as long as they are useful for communication and project planning. If you would like your information deleted, send us an email and we will remove it promptly.

Your Rights

You may request to access, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you at any time. Just reach out to us at the email address below and we will handle it.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Given the small scope of this project, changes are unlikely to be frequent.
